Learn About Hemochromatosis

What is Hemochromatosis?

Hereditary hemochromatosis (HH) is a genetic disorder that causes the body to absorb too much iron from the diet. While iron is an essential nutrient, excessive amounts can be toxic and may lead to damage in various organs, primarily the liver, heart, and pancreas.

Fortunately, thanks to modern medical practices like routine blood work and genetic testing, life-threatening conditions from HH are now rare. It takes many years for significant iron deposits to develop, which is why, historically, the condition was often not diagnosed until an individual was in their 40s or 50s. About HemoBright
Our Mission and How It Works

What is This Website?

HemoBright is an informational tool designed to provide clarity and context for individuals navigating their iron blood test results. It is not a diagnostic tool and is not a substitute for professional medical advice. Our goal is to empower you with information to have more productive conversations with your healthcare provider.

How It Works

This tool uses a combination of established medical logic and advanced AI. The initial analysis of your lab values (like Transferrin Saturation and Ferritin) is based on the diagnostic criteria outlined by the American Academy of Family Physicians. The "Next Steps" section is then generated by a secure, privacy-focused AI model to provide personalized, educational guidance in a clear and easy-to-understand format. Your data is not stored or used for any other purpose.

A Personal Mission

The creator of HemoBright was diagnosed with Hereditary Hemochromatosis (HH) after years of ambiguous symptoms and confusing blood test results. The journey to a diagnosis was filled with uncertainty. This experience was the driving force behind creating a tool that could provide much-needed context and clarity.

The name "HemoBright" has a dual meaning: it aims to shine a bright light on a condition that is often misunderstood, while also serving as a reminder that the future is still bright, even with the diagnosis of a chronic genetic disorder.
